List of Essential Pages
The Complete Guide to start a Website for Your Startup. Many businesses have a hard time coming up with possible pages to include in their web site. There are several common pages to include in your web site, and you can use this guide as a starting point.
Building a Website may appear to be very complex, but it's really an easy process. The best way to start is by developing a map of the pages and content that you want to include. This depends upon the type of business you have, and how informative you want your Website to be.
MAIN PAGES (Non eCommerce)
Most important pages to include on your website. Every day we have costumers who call us and ask how many pages their website may have and how to structure it. This is a guide of what you need to have on hand in order to make your website look professional and keep the costs low.
- HOME PAGE - Of course this page is always necessary as it’s the starting point to each and every website. This is your “sales” page and should provide information about what you can do for your customers. It should also give your visitors a brief overview of what they can find on your site.
- ABOUT US - This is probably tied with a CONTACT US page as the most popular page outside of the HOME PAGE. In this page you will want to tell the public a little about yourself or about your company, how you started, how long you have been in business, some form of a mission statement and what you represent. Also, this is where you tell your customers about why they should buy your products, services and/or trust your organization.
- CONTACT US – A contact us page is not an optional page, it’s a requirement. If you expect people to get in touch with you, you need to have a page that shows how a potential customer can reach you. It could be as simple as an email address, or more complex with full contact details, interactive maps, and contact form.
- SERVICES - Start this page with a brief summary of the services. People will want to know what services you are offering. This is closely linked to products. This is a good opportunity to show case what you offer and letting people know in detail what you can do.
- PRODUCTS - Pretty much the same as SERVICES. If you are selling products, display the products with photos, descriptions, and possible options to purchase.
- FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions, This has proven to be a great time saver for many companies. Instead of having to answer the same questions over and over again, place them on your website and keep adding to them. The more information you have on your website, the less time you will need to spend answering questions by email or phone. Frequently Asked Questions should address your customer’s concerns that may otherwise be an obstacle to making a sale.
- PHOTO GALLERY - Even if you do not wish to sell your products on-line, you may wish to showcase your goods or services in a special photo gallery – show how your products or services are being used by your customers. They say “pictures speak a thousand words” and on your website it is particularly important. Don’t give your customers a reason to visit your competitor’s website and provide them with all the information they may possibly need or want.
- PORTFOLIO - If you create something, this is your opportunity to show it off to the world! Typically a must have page for designers, copywriters, photographers, artists, builders, etc., the portfolio page is where you get to show off your work in any way you want and show your visitors what you can do. This is where we get to show off my graphic design work!. What to include: Samples of your work! Try to show a diverse range of samples because variety will provide more opportunities for your site visitors to connect with a piece of your work.
- TESTIMONIALS – Having information on your services is one thing, but if you have comments from other customers, visitors on your web site will feel a lot more comfortable. Include testimonials from your current customer to show your potential clients that you are trustworthy, reliable and that you offer great service and/or products. Make sure the testimonials are real and if possible provide contact details of the person who supplied you with the testimonial. If you don’t have any right now, get them! Simply email your customers and ask for their feedback on your business and service. Most happy customers will gladly provide this.
- PRIVACY POLICY - Let your visitors know what you do with information stored from the web site and assure them that their privacy is protected. Privacy continues to be a major issue for customers shopping online. Concerns about how their information is going to be used is a major barrier when making a sale. Internet shopping experience is built on trust and privacy is the number one ingredient in trust.
- MEDIA OR PRESS KIT — This area would contain a company backgrounder, logos, photos, and tools that others may use when writing articles about your company.
- SITE MAP – This is very important for larger web sites, but it’s a great way for visitors to quickly find specific pages. It also aids in search engine indexing.
- BLOG - A blog is basically a journal that is available on the web. Blogs are typically updated daily or weekly using software that allows people with little or no technical background to update and maintain the blog. Blogs are a great tool as they help with:
- Communicating with your customers. Blogs provide a way for you to communicate with your customers directly. And it is a two-way communication. You can post a message on your blog and your visitors can easily respond. Staying in touch with your customers regularly means you can build long-lasting relationships and develop their trust.
- Search Engine Marketing Blogs give you an increased presence on major search engines, like Bing, Yahoo! and Google. Every article you post creates a new opportunity to appear on the search results page, in a very short time you could have a lot of pages indexed by the search engine sites, bringing you lots of new visitors.
- Stay Ahead of Your Competition Blogs are still relatively new and chances are your competition does not yet use them. So you will be seen as an expert in your industry when you post your knowledge and expertise.
- Media & Public Relations Blogs are excellent PR tools. You can post your Media Releases and articles and have them picked up by the media.
